Dr. James Perkins

James Perkins, DVM earned his undergraduate degree in Animal Science from the University of California, Davis with honors, and his veterinary medical degree from the School of Veterinary Medicine, UC/Davis.

He completed a fellowship in ultrasound imaging at the Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital at UC/Davis.

He has a special interest in veterinary dentistry, and has trained in exodontia with advanced extraction techniques, basic and advanced periodontal techniques, maxillofacial surgery at the Vet Dental Training Center in San Diego, the Western Veterinary Academy in Las Vegas, and the Animal Dental Training Center in Baltimore, Maryland. Dr. Perkins is a member of the Foundation for Veterinary Dentistry.

Dr. Perkins began his career as a “mixed animal practitioner”, working with beef and dairy cattle, horses, sheep, goats, pigs, dogs and cats.  A few years after founding Pollock Pines Veterinary Hospital in 1982, he narrowed his focus and has exclusively pursued expertise in small animal medicine and surgery for dogs and cats.

When not working, Dr. Perkins enjoys his wife Debbie, his four children (all raised in El Dorado County), their spouses and fourteen grandchildren.  Their dog Piper accompanies him to work on occasion.  His hobby is white water rafting and kayaking.
